888 cpu

Hi Guys,

My 888 Stada is one of the early ones and uses the same CPU as the 851 (the P7). The few road tests I've read say how much more civilised the 888 is compared to the 851 due to the upgraded (P8) computer that mine doesn't have! Does that mean swapping to a P8 will be a good move (obviously with correct chip)? I have no complaints about the fueling so I guess its possible the impovements may only be apparent on the SP (with dual injectors)??

Thanks,

Keith

I have done this very thing to my 1990 851 Starda. I installed a P8 ECU from a 1998 Laverda Ghost and a 888 Strada chip. Overall the bike runs better, idles better, and pulls abit harder. Im sure when we get to remapping it on the dyno it will be that much better. It was a simple bolt on. Just make sure you install the chip correctly, notch in correct orientation.

So get on with it M8

Hi,

Thanks for the feedback. I'll definately keep my eye out for a P8. Should hopefully be plenty about of used ones about as the 916 used it as well.

Keith,

Not all 916s used the P8. Just the earliest year and the SP/SPS. The rest used the 16M

It doesnt necesarily (sp) have to come from a 916 though. Laverda and Guzzi both used the P8 as well as some cars. I believe Alfas and some Fiats? did as well. You would just need an appropriate chip.

Mine came from a newer Zane era Laverda. Check your local breaker.
