I am about to get cutting into a 916 Bip loom (it's also fitted to a number of other bikes with the 1.6m ecu) and wanted to check my thinking on a number of the engine management circuits and the way that the Fuel pump/level sensor works. Pretty low level stuff but it'd nice to be 100% sure. Also trying to find out what the small 2 way connector is used for in the seat/ tank area. Can't find any mention of it on the wiring diagrams. Both wires are Brown with white traces. It breaks from the main loom near the relays that live under the seat unit.

As you can guess, I don't have a 916 handy.

The 2 way connector sounds like the connection for the diagnostic hookup.
Sometimes referred to on the diagrams as self diagnostic.
What are you hoping to accomplish when you cut into the loom?

The diagnostic connector is a three way jobbie. It comes out of the rubber neck that seals the main ECU loom.
Not sure what the two way connector is? I have a bike in here at the moment that appears to have this looked up to the alarm. If I remember rightly, it's a spare on my 748.
I'll have a delve through the info I have here.
The fuel pump is switched off one of the relays under the seat. The fuel level sensor is just an on/off switch with the float making the contact to light up the warning light.

Why are you cutting the loom............??

The Diag plug is the 3 way that is very close to the ECU. The unidentified connector branches out about 12inches further down the loom.

I am using the loom in a different model.

As the colours are brown/white, I was wondering if they where either for accesory power feeds or a loop of coil power feed for imobilisers. It would seem a pretty naff solution if it where the latter.

the two wire connector is short cuircited om my SPS with a looped connector, if I take the connector apart, the bike stops, at least the fuelpump stops...

immobiliser, quickshifter, sidestand cutout switch? I dunno, none is fitted to my '98 bike. Im thinking of using it for a tiltover switch..

It appears the connector is a "tap" into the fuel pump circuit.
As said above, pull the loop connector and the pump stops.
The brown/white is a Marrelli wire ID and appears no where else on the normal wiring.
It could well be for something as a tilt switch?? Datatool seem to have used it on some of their bespoke, plug'n'play, alarm systems.

Seems perfect for a Ducati mercury tilt switch then

I'll have to get one as machine regulations require it for racing here in Sweden. I have gone though scrutineering without it but I don't want to take the chance anymore.

I did wonder about that? It explains why there is no mention of it in the wiring diagram.

Now I just need to decide if I can be bothered to chop all the excess/duplicate funtionality out of this loom.

Now, where are those side cutters?

That's true, I can't find it i the diagrams either.. A bit odd really..

Would be nice if it was just a tap into the fuelpump circuit, I don't want to have a mercury swiths connected to the ignition without a delay function..
