Bradders, I don't think it's the bits or the cost of the labour that you're paying for with suspension set up, it's the know how.

After all, most of us here have bikes with fully adustable preload, compression and rebound damping. The cost to us of twiddling a few knobs and adjusters is zero, but can any of us really set up our suspension? Can we feck!

If you don't have the knobs and clicky bits to twiddle, as on the DD bikes, then you really have to know what you're doing with spring rates, oil viscosities and airgaps etc, cos you only get one shot at it.

yep - understand its the expertise but thats my point, when I stripped the forks, there is very little to change (in my limited view) on a set of std 94 monster forks. There are loads of guys who can offer advice on what to put in (oil wise etc) foc just by chatting/posting on here and then take it to them/specialist after to set things like preload or whatever adjustments are available.

What forks are permissable? I guess if they are comp/reb/pre adjustable with valve and doobry wotsits that it may be worth a specialist to rebuild...

I had my showa forks done, and my ohlins rear, fully rebuilt with uprated springs, valves etc for £300 so I guess that's a guide

....or maybe I am just showing my ignorance and reasons why I shouldnt get involved....

I sent mine off to Racing Lines as the start of the season after chatting to them on the phone. They changed the springs, fork oil weight and the airgap to what they worked out would be correct for the tracks we were using and my weight.

At the same time the forks were given a full service with new seals and bushes. They also serviced the rear shock and changed the spring to suit as well.

Total cost was £289 incl delivery.

As I never rode the bike before, I can't offer back to back comparison but I can say that they've performed flawlessly all season (unlike the rider!) and I reckon they're better than the ones on the 748 now.

Mine are totally stock and - perfect!!

Got the Nitron shock in the back and the bike is the best handling thing I've ridden.

I took Antony's advice and went to racing lines also.

Clive was good enough to point out that although I'd asked him to change the springs etc, the later Monster springs were better rated than the earlier ones and we agreed that they didn't need replacing, just new shims, more oil etc.... which meant it was a whole lot cheaper as the springs are the major part of the quoted cost.

Recommended.
