What the feck?!

Just got back after a weeks holiday to find a replacement slave cylinder, so got to fitting it and giving the bike a little clean, when I come across this:

From a slightly different angle:

What the feck has happened here, and do I need to sort it? Does it have something to do with the leaking clutch fluid on my last ride?

Its a standard 14t on a pretty standard 749 bip, as far as I know the sprocket has never been removed/changed.

On further examination it is apparent that gosh OMG...JAPAN is the correct way up on one link, but upside down on the next link. Could that be the answer?
apart from that, nothing jumps out at me from those pictures.

I know, I know: NO CHAIN LUBE! It has magically disappeared!

Sorry, mate, if you're referring to the bent washer, it's meant to be that way. Otherwise, I am as baffled as the others.
