using the t100 lap timer

i recently got my first lap timer, a t100 rollcentre item.

having viewed threads on the subject considered that i didnt need a beacon.

using it has been very hit and miss with it recording times for some laps and seemingly missing the signal on others, while giving me some lap times of 30 sec here and there as well.

what settings do you guys use re sensitivity etc

i have the pick-up located in an un-obscured place with what id consider good view of a beacon.

do they generally just record some and miss some laps?

Once they work, then they work - if that makes sense. As long as you've got the sensor in a reasonably clear position, on the correct side of the bike - most circuits are on the right side - then it should be fine.

My sensitivity is set to 6 (middle I think) and as long as the delay is just under what your very fast lap time would be - you should be OK.

They either seem to work or not work at all !!! Or if they are showing too many laps, it might be that someone has position a beacon halfway round the track (hence the reason for correctly setting the delay).

If yours is working half the time, it maybe that the delay (the time that it will ignore signals) is set over a normal laptime

I've heard that at Brands (for example) it's wise to aim the pickup slightly high cos you could still be cranked over a bit when you go past the circuit beacon.
Son't know how true that is!

so where exactly is the circuit beacon at brands, seemed that it was catching something at the start / finish line , cant see how your leaning over at that point ?

i didnt realise that the blanking time would increase as high as it comes set at 15 seconds will adjust this up and see how i get on

Bascially the time set is the first time it looks for a beacon... so if you've got it at 15... at 16 secs it could look for a beacon... therefore like said, if there's one somewhere else.. it will get that....

and make a pigs ear of your lap times.

Yes,

But if there is more than one beacon it should pick them up consistently?

I have seen the odd duff time from a laptimer maybe there are other sources of IR at the circuit?? garage door openers? TV remote controls, maybe even some using IR guided missiles???
