Fork Noise

Hi All
I have a 97 M900 the Nero model (see Avatar) unfortunately I have a 1999 workshop manual so would appreciate some advice. The front forks are USD with a blue damping adjuster on top of each. Are these the showa forks?

Problem is that when I brake hard to a stop or accelerate hard there is a click or crunch which sounds like it is from the forks.

I don't think there is any steering head play but I suppose the steering-head bearing could be breaking up or maybe one of the forks is out of oil?

Also is there any difference between stripping these forks and the ones without a damping adjuster shown in my workshop manual.

Thanks to all Jon
