748R and Ohlins...dampers?

Hi quick question as im shooting off to see some bikes tomorrow.

I understand that ohlins steering dampers were standard kits on the 748R (or so im told)...

I dont understand why i have been seeing some with Ohlins and some with standard... and both were the same year!!

Can anyone please expand?

Thanks

The 02 model was shown on the Ducati web site as having Ohlins steering damper but many of them if not all ended up with the standard damper fitted at the factory. The dealers spec. sheet stated Showa damper but Ducati UK did the right thing for those purchasers who complained and an Ohlins was supplied.

I wouldn't have thought you'd get away with that one on a second hand bike - always worth a try though and Ducati UK have been known to play ball just to keep the customer happy/make them go away!

Out of interest, none of the Ducati parts books for the 748R (all years) show an Ohlins steering damper as OEM equipment.

Best of luck if you decide to pursue it.

The 2002 Ducati UK brochure uses the term
" Confidence in the twisties" when talking about the Ohlins steering damper.
This was the wording that togehter with the piccies persuaded Ducati UK to honour and supply.
They also did this with red mirrors as apposed to the black plastic ....
