Peeps!
we have lift off! after a quick Shimmy down to the bike shop, I picked up a battery for 30 sheets, and a pair o' plugs for a fiver. Fitted them up in 2 minutes, hit the starter and she cracked open 1st turn. Now she idles sweet as a nut and doesnt stall out when approaching traffic lights etc!

So... I thought, while its running, lets try and fit those 900ssie remus pipes I bought off ebay...
It looked like they were all to cock, I couldnt physically get them on the down pipes in position, they would go on but you would have to have them twisted round and pointing up to the heavens!
So along came my mate with a mig welder and a grider...
2 cuts in the 45mm section of the end cans, a quick bend, eye-up (not the glass eye-the good one) and weld.
Brilliant, they sound the business and look alright too.
If im being fussy, the left hand exhaust looks about half an inch too high, but if anyone knows me...........


Ill get some pictures up tomorrow, honestly boys, it looks awesome!

BUT......still check the charge voltage that your battery is getting or that new one might end up getting fried - if its not in the online manual you downloaded, gimme a shout and I'll get the necessary stuff to you.

It is important...if the voltage regulator is damaged or failing (and I believe they are weak on the earlier SS range) then a higher than normal voltage can be delivered to the battery.

Worth checking.

As Frank says, your new battery won't last long if the regulator isn't working correctly.
Set the multimeter to read dc volts on a 0 to 20V range and connect it across the battery terminals. A good battery should be reading in excess of 12V. Then start the bike and see what it reads while the engine is running. At tickover you should expect to see at least 13V. If you rev the engine the reading will rise a bit but should go no higher than 14.5V. Anymore and the battery will get overcharged. You should get a reading of about 14V ±0.5V when the engine is at normal running speeds.

After buying about 4 regs from busters m p etc I found that if i rode with no lights on the red warning light would come on at approx 2000 rpm , so I now ride fully lit. around 1995 the alternators were uprated and I dont think pattern parts were uprated to suit. So headlights on and no trouble since. Hope this helps.
