I would say that you can alter the sub-frame and remove seat brackets, based on the rule above. That's from the 2007 draft published by the RC. I don't have the 2006 ones handy, but if I recall correctly, this section has not changed.

I read that part of the regs (and it has not changed) as meaning
...
changes to the subframe are free so long as original material is used for any changes
...
eg there are many monsters running with the tea-tray support removed.

But perhaps we need it worded much more clearly.

I bought an 851 project from Alan last night - so that bit makes sense ... but please dont sell up guys !
By all means sell a fantastic 583 to Gilps tho !
