as chi says; go for it.

property in the uk doubles in value on average every 7 years and if you choose the right place at the right time in considerably less time. this is also the case abroad more so in 'emerging' markets. as with any investment; the higher the risk the higher the potential return.

always look at the worst case senario; if the property doenst go up are you happy just to have it as place you will want to go to every now and then?

can you hold on to it long term and not be forced to sell it?

i would say go for it definitely, but but a place you have a 'feel' for and where you would happily holiday each year if; say; you couldnt afford to go anywhere else.

if you feel like that its pretty certain others will too.

good luck.

could swap you a week in croatia for a week in turkey maybe in the future?

Some really useful advice there guys - I do appreciate it, and it was good to hear from the likes of you dickie who have actually 'done it'. I guess sometimes you need other people to give you a kick up the arse..

Heres the development were looking at;

http://www.dreamhomesww.com/index.cf...odrum.tur1.cfm

Its got everything going for it really;

- Being built by a massive (quality) developer with proven after sales back up to help with renting etc
- 2 golf courses being constructed within 3km (all year rent out potential)
- 15 minutes from the airport (no hire car)
- Bodrum airport is being extended and budget airlines are beginning to have a sniff (1 signed up already)
- Loads of on site amenities including shuttle services to nearby towns etc
- As it wont be finished for 2 years - they will take 40% now and the balance in 2 years with 2 additional prices increase guaranteed by the developer before completion.

Good point about would I be happy holidaying there. The answer is yes..its got plenty to keep the kids happy on site, I liked the country and the scenery is breathtaking..!

Swap weeks Dickie ? - you bet mate !

Mmmm..now I wonder if theres a market in Turkey for Ducati bling....? lol !!

I`m interested if anyone has a place in Hungary and what they think of it.

I`m also looking at the west coast of Ireland, Itally (just North or South of Rome as well as Germany around the Eifel mountan region.

Any comments at all are welcome.......................except for my weight problem!

The other 'up and coming' option we looked at Rob was Calabria in Southern Italy - up and coming but not developed yet and not much to do as its essentially a farming region (ruling it out with 2 young kids) and flights are still pricey. But if I didnt have kids and wanted a longer term punt thats where my money would be going. There is a company we looked at with a good website and were doing inspection trips for £25 each !!

On that note - i'd really recommend inspection trips. I've been on two now - very professional and no pressure and its like a mini holiday !! They just drive you around looking at places you want to see and ensure you have plenty of free time to get to see the country your visiting

Expanding on the 'mates rates' thing can you make sure there are a few Ducatis in the garage too!!!!!!!! Oh and if it's near a racetrack that would be even better!!!!!
