Track preparations

Hi all,

I have a few probs with my 916 at the last race.

1. After a few laps the brakes lost their efficiency. I'm running DOT 5.1 fluid, standard discs / pads. What do you suggest i should get in order to improve the braking? I also noticed that my right hand gets tired a lot by pulling the brake lever... i rode a Honda CBR 600 RR and the brakes needed just a light touch for the same efficiency of my Ducati...

I have 748 2000 forks/calipers/brake pump

2. Throttle: I have the standard handle bars and the standard throttle and my hand gets very tired to twist the throttle at max all the time.

Are there any options like adjustable handlebars needed?

Thanks

sarchastically speaking . . . .

lay off the 5.1
apply some brembo pads and DOT 4
dont go so fast
do a bit of DIY!!! (with both hands)
get yourself down the gym
loose some unsprung weight

or failing that - get a CBR!

Seriously Speaking . . .

you have probably shagged your caliper seals with the 5.1
get them done and change to dot 4
experiment with your riding position and RELAX - you are holding on too tight - be careful with the DIY!!!!!

from what i know DOT 5.1 is perfectly compatible with DOT4. I think you're talking about DOT 5...

I have to hold tight cause we're racing on old airports with bad quality pavement and if you're not holding it you can really bounce off the bike... but that's it... every body is having the same conditions so that's not an excuse.

as for height/weight i'm 1.82 m and 75 kg so i think i'm ok for the moment

you;re right about the gym part... i'll go starting this week at least 3 times a week.

I'll DO MYSELF as you suggested every day... no... twice a day to get fit

I would stay with the Dot 5.1 as you say it is the dot 5 that is the problem one, change your pads to Bendix or an equivilent race pad, better still get some P4 calipers & a Brembo radial master cylinder, thet set up will not fade.

Chris.

The biggest, i.e. most effective, change you can make to your brake system is to fit 18x20 radial master cylinder and some good pads. Bendix, the new Brembo RS, Performance Friction, are all good choices.
