polishing scratches

Hi, anyone know how to avoid polishing scratches. It seems extremley hard to polish paint coated plastic witihout leaving these small scratches. I think we all suffer from this. Any suggestion would be most welcome!

Cheers

The secret is in the rag. RS Bikepaint recommend (and sell) rolls of a kind of webbing. I've bought similar from autojumbles, and I suspect car shops will have similar.

The idea is that the polish gets in the mesh and doesn't clog, so avoids scratches and works for longer. You can polish out any fine scratches using G4 Rubbing Compound. Give RS a call f you want professional advice

Mood: I own a flame thrower
Go for a mixture of the first 2 responses.

use a good quality lint free type cloth ... and throw it away when dirty. An old soft cotton T-shirt is quite good.

I use Merr polish which I think is the best.

I would add that it's worthwhile polishing in straight lines, from the front to the back, and not round and round in circles.

If you wash the bike, leather it down with the same straight strokes in the same direction as polishing.
