DesmoDue vs. MiniTwins

Thought you might be interested to know that the very popular MiniTwins race series is now open to air cooled bikes of up to 820cc to run along side the existing 650cc water cooled machines.

For the full set of rules see www.minitwins.co.uk - Full details including dates for the televised MRO MiniTwins series are available on the site.

Hmmm...so you could race a 750 ss with a slight overbore. Put a set of Nelly's heads on it and you should have a decent bike. Mind you that's no longer cheap racing, but then a competitive season in minitwins is said cost the better part of 8 grand.

Surely a stock S2R with a decent shock and some fork internals would be right up there?

8 grand? The machine that won the series last year cost well under 5 grand. Not bad for 51.8 second laps of Brands Hatch or 1:16s at Snetterton.

Good points Mike
And certainly cheaper than running a competitive Ducati SoT machine in a full season of club racing.
Could be a natural progression from Desmo Due

Don't disagree with you Mike about the S2R, although at that sort of speed I reckon you'll want a fairing. What are the rules? Is it required to be based on a road bike? How much can you modify?

My comment about the cost were on a season basis.

Is this the Mike Edwards who spent most of the eighties/nineties winning everthing on the club and national race scene?

In that case good to hear from you Mike. I doubt you'll remember me, but I certainly remember you.In the mid 80's it seemed that every race I entered was won by yourself, John Corrin or Kevin Mawdsley - good days.

Nah, Turns out there's two of us. Unfortunately when they handed out the talent it all went to the other Mike Edwards!

For MiniTwins the bikes need to stay pretty stock. Exhausts, jetting, filters, suspension and, er, that's about it. You'd be surprised how quick you can go despite not having a fairing. Unfaired bikes came second and third in the series last year.

What would be wrong with an 800SS?

Snuffink methinks.

What is that whirring sound?
