I had the same thing with my rear 208gp at Almeria. The tyre which was a soft compound I took to my local tyre dealer, Wheelhouse, He commented that the 208gp's are prone to tearing, the reason being that, if they are not allowed to heat up right through to the carcass, the surface keeps peeling back. Other than that get your rear suspenders set up right.

Seen this many times on my race bike (and can be much worse), caused by :

a) Riding too hard on cold tyres - use tyre warmers or do a couple of gentle laps to start with.
b) Rear suspension not set up properly and as a result, the tyres are having to work too hard.
c) Wrong tyre pressures.

Mood: Finally gotten over the 748R getting stolen thing. Actually, no i haven't !
I'd say B above.
This is tear not wear
My 748 developed the same pattern at donington after a session where i had upped the compression damping 2 clicks front and back.
Changed it back and the pattern returned to the nice chewing gum at the edge look, and smoother across the middle.

It was suspension Keith. I have got it set up nicely now and the tyres are a smooth as a baby's bum.

Basically Monty, you hairy old scrotum, your rear suspension isn't working.

Cheers.
