DUCATI Side Stand

Well... I have now offically had my first side stand incident. Very ****ed off, but hey ho... that's the way things go.

Whoever invented that side stand anyway... were they on crack? Public stoning is in order!!

Clutch Lever £45
Indicator £12
Paint Job on lower faring £100
Nut and bolt to stop the stand flicking up in the future £3.50

Not sure if anyone else has had a stand incident.

Had a nose at the Duke999 stands - very smart, look robust too.

Yeah, but about half an inch too short tho,the bike leans over a very long way.

I relaced my stand for one which DOES flick up - a huge benefit when your legs are too short to lift the stand

Did CSS at Rockingham on Monday (excellent, definitely Level 2 next spring...). Nearly saw a different sort of sidestand incident. Guy with a 9xx had obviously modded his so it didn't flip up. Started the bike, into gear, rode towards the track, leaned left, both wheels in the air... Fortunately for him the stand then did go up so no harm done. I had thought of modifyng mine, but not so sure now.

I had the same thought - my old bike had a broken side stand switch so u could ride with it down. Not funny when it digs into the road, bending the stand and flicking the bike into the air!

I'll leave mine alone, although its a right pain not being able to leave the bike running atall...

Its not a problem, just get into a routine each time you set off so you dont forget anything, and it will soon become automatic for you to put the stand up before you set off. Ive had modded stands on both my Ducatis now for the past three years and not had a problem.

Surely there is a cheap electrical fix which cuts the electrics if you select a gear with the stand down .....don't think it is rocket science.

Had the fix carried out on my 996S to allow me to warm it up on the stand.

Nelly can fix it !

I bought a side stand bypass switch. It took about 3-4 minutes to instal. No splicing or cutting necessary. I have a 2000 996 though so my stand stays down. However i can now let the bike warm up without me having to stand and wait for acouple of minutes. It ran me $35 on ebay

I'm lukcy- mines a 98 bike so it runs on the s(uic)ide stand & has no electric cut out. I fitted an elongated spring plate off a later type 996 & it stays down too. Best of both worlds IMO
