Anyone care to disclose fuel consumption figures ???

Not giving away any close-to-the-chest "factory" secrets

But, I was curious at the mpg that the DD bikes return - compared to a std 600ss etc.

Anyone?

Cheers - Frank

I can't say about a DD bike, but I get around 15-18mpg out of my 800ss at race pace. The road bike does 40-60mpg depending on my mood at the time. I suspect the DD guys see not too dissimilar patterns of consumption.

And I don't work too well with old school numbers...........

For the 1000ss race bike, we had calculated around 11 kms per litre last weekend at Mallory Park, which equates to 5 laps per litre.

With my air/fuel ratio measured on Sunday at around 10.4 to 1 across the rev range my consumption is not as good as it could be

Only ever measured the mpg of #34 one time, at brands hatch back in 2006.
Was getting a 'credit crunch busting' 30mpg.
But Brands isn't a fuel hungry track, unlike Donny and Snet for example.

Not really relevant but we used to get about 15mpg out of the TZ when WJB was racing it-mind you the fuel worked out at about £9.00/gallon...........

Haven't checked the tank after sundays second race, but we did 2.5 mile out lap, 2.5 mile warmup lap and ten 2.5 mile race laps so that was 30 miles in total. Not all at race pace so maybe #34 burnt through a gallon (4.55Ltrs) of fuel

Below are some calculations I did for racing at Snett / Donny last year on a DD bike in order to minimise the amount of fuel I carried:

-----------"Based upon doing 20 laps (19 in the race, 1 warm up(0.5), 1 cool down (0.5)etc) at 1.95 miles = 39 miles. So putting 11 litres in at the start and with 2.75 left after the race means I used 8.25 litres.

So 39 (miles) / 8.25 (litres) = 4.73 miles per litre.

With Snett at 1.95 miles (same as Donny) and Cadwell at 2.25 miles.

For Snett, there are 12 laps per race scheduled, each lap will use 1.95 (lap length) / 4.73 (mls per litre) = 0.41 litres / lap x 12 = 4.95 litres total for race distance. But allowing for 2 litres to be left over after the race and 1 litre for warmup/slowdown, we'll need approx 8 litres in the tank to start the race.

Cadwell will be a different story, but if the races are 8 laps (they normally are) which is 2.25 miles per lap the calculations are;

2.25 (lap length) / 4.73 (mpl) = 0.48 litres / lap so times 8 laps = 3.8 litres. Add 2 litres (to be left in the tank) and 1 for warmup/cooldown etc, = 6.8 litres. Maybe squeeze this to 6.5, but again test this with racing on Sat.------------"

So basically I calculated my DD bike did 4.73 miles per litre or approx 21.5 miles per gallon when racing.

Maybe Frank is trying to work out a budget for DD racing, perhaps he fancies giving it a go
