hmm seams like a cheep way to do a single injector conversion. you could put a 916 chip in as it says disconnect the two outer injectors. But without proper set up I could not see it making many more horses. I have just made this change with the ultimap chip which is adjustable. And after a couple of dyno runs is now making 118HP
Sounds rather optomistic, Like the phrase "All these mods" maybe there was more than a half system and a chip. Adam is yours a later 996 with the full 50mm exhaust ? Both 916 and 996 run 50mm throttle bodies those figures make it look as though the extra 80cc adds 20bhp, OK the 996 has slightly bigger valves but 20bhp increase I doubt it. Mind you the initial 108bhp figure looks a bit low from what I remember from the Moto Rapido Dyno day I attended, my 916 made 104.8bhp with 996BPs making about 10 more. Is that why your bidding on that other ECU Adam but then it has no chip and I'm still waiting for him to answer my question about it being for a 748/916 or a 996.
I've done the same thing on my 888 (it has a 996 ST4s engine) and as it only has a 45/50mm exhaust and the less good, 888 airbox, I'm seeing 116 at the rear tyre. I have also had the cams degred as well. I don't think you'll see 125 plus without cams and maybe a slight compression hike. Rgds, Rob
After the ECU as I wanted to see whats in it without the risk of being with out a bike. As Glyn will tell you we have already built 3d mappible ignitions for GSXR 600 and 1000 and bussa's. and built the EMS and data logger for the racecar as well as the flash dash in the wheel.
I was just going to dig the eprom reader/writer out of the loft and have a fiddle.
I'm not positive on this but I thought later 996's had a 50mm Exhaust but looking at the pic of yours it looks like you have 45mm as there are Baffles in the vertical pipes behind the right riders footpeg.
Just read a good description of the whole single/twin injector thing on the moto rapido faq page on their website, seems there are a few confused 996 riders out there!!
As mentioned above, it's a cheaper but cruder way way of achieving what the single injector FIM eprom does. It doesn't result in much of a top end hike, just adds to the mid range. If the base run was on a badly set up bike then "impressive" results are always obtainable. If you want true hikes of that magnitude, then you'll need a fair bit more than £100.................
