Ducati SS1000 \'Race Only\' Version Available in USA

The following release is from Ducati North America:

Quote:
Race track only motorcycle production limited to 30 units

Cupertino, CA - February 3, 2006 - In conjunction with the release of the 2006 racing contingency program, Ducati North America announces a limited production SS1000 that is intended to be used exclusively for racing and track day events. This motorcycle is stripped of all the street essentials and is priced accordingly, making it the ultimate platform for racers and track day riders alike. By design, it is intended to encourage track day participation and club racing. These motorcycles are ready for immediate delivery to dealers on a special order basis.

“Racing and track riding is very important to Ducati. The Supersport and DS1000 engine is a recognized as a great platform for racing and I want to encourage and support riders and dealers in making the dream a reality. This is a great way for riders of all skill levels to get involved at a very reasonable cost,” said Michael Lock, CEO of Ducati North America.

Pricing:

MSRP: $7,999

Ordering:

Unlike the Ducati racer discount program, a racing license is not required to purchase this motorcycle. Please visit your local dealer immediately to order these motorcycles, as supplies are very limited and expected to sell out quickly.

Technical Details:

These motorcycles are almost identical to Model Year 2005 SS1000F. In order to be brought into the United States for “Racing Purposes Only” the following components have been removed: Front Headlamp, Rear Tail Light, Mirror, Turn Signals. “Competition Only” stickers are prominently placed on the bikes as well. The bodywork is stock, so there will be holes where the components have been removed. For most racing organizations, the bodywork would need to be replaced with enclosed belly pan bodywork in order to be used on the track. Colors available are red and yellow.

In addition to this motorcycle, there are many options available for modification through Ducati Performance and your local Ducati dealer. For complete SS1000 specifications, please visit www.ducatiusa.com.

Ideal basis for Thunderbike racing and look at the price (approx £4600) !! Can Ducati UK be persuaded to bring some in?

Mood: Is 112 dB loud enough?? What??
It be even better if they could be pursuaded to bring in some "prepped" bikes. For instance, they could put a set of their bare Aviofibre body work on, maybe some race cans, footrest, etc.

I suppose the other way is to get one of these 'Race only' bikes and sell the fairing, etc, on Ebay.

Matt, have you approached Ducati UK about getting some sort of formal support for your series?

What a let down. They could have easily used this to put a bike out there as a track challenger to the DB5 or low spec Millona, but it's just an SS without lights.

Even some basic mods such as rearsets, pipes, bellypan would have helped, but it really wants radial calipers, slimmer tank, slight tune to >100bhp, forged wheels.

And as much as I'd love to believe that DUK would only charge £4.6k for them I can't quite see it happening that way!

Cheers,

Ali

I have spoken to Peter Brooker at Ducati UK. They are interested in the series but haven't offered any formal support for it, YET Although we have organised the series we are a Buell specialist, so maybe some Ducati racers may like to make an approach to Peter?
