out for a ride last night and what happens??
chain snapped!!:

resulting in smashed genrator cover, spilled its gutts! dinged swingarm, chipped wheel and a nice chain imprint in the underside of the temi!!

i would like to hear from anyone who has been in this situation before!

the bike is 15 months old and has covered 6100 miles.
Is on its original factory fitted chain & sprockets (naturally!)

were do i stand with a warranty claim??
aren't chains usually guaranteed for at least 10k?

Ducati want to see the chain as they claim it is down to owner maintenance....

Any advice greatly appreciated!

I am gutted for your damage mate, but i would respectfully suggest chains can only take so much................

I woud assume that witha 15 month old bike with just 6K on the clock...you have eery right to kick up a right stink.

I know you ride hard and fast...but its a 'superbike' its to be expected.

I would also imagine that with such a young bike, which I assume has had its servicing as required at a Ducati dealership...the chain will have been inspected/adjusted/lubed then by THEM (ie Ducati approved staff)...so for DUK to say it is due to lack of owner maintenance, thats just a push off in my eyes.

I think you have every right to have it all sorted by Ducati.

Problem is that they expect the Joe public to just turn over and not pursue the claim...It really gets my goat when large companies do that

I know for sure that if I ever found myself in a similar situation, I would not hesitate to chase them down with all kinds of action.

No chance of warranty unless you can prove a manufacturing defect or that it was not joined correctly. Chains can be subject to all sorts of punishment, wheelies, stretched and loaded from landing jumps, incorrectly cleaned using wrong lube or solvents which damage them etc etc.

waranty doesnt specifically list chains but does state items subject to wear are excluded so that would mean a chain isnt covered.

I don't think you have a chance in hell of getting your dealer to accept responsibility Sorry mate.

Chains need constant attention; oil, tensioning etc. The dealer will only claim you either haven't oiled it enough or you tightend it too much. Ultimately, it's a riders responsibility to check his chain. I feel for you though

Shouldn't imagine there should be any major user intervention in respect of chain maintenance other than check and lube.
Check your user manual that came with the bike - it tells you to only let the dealer adjust your chain, so if it was done at service it was maintained according to manufacturer requirement?
