Gear Box issue

Hi Folks, I am new to this forum and hope someone here can give me some advice or good news...I am having a gearbox problem that's driving me mad still. I have a 2006 999s with 4k miles. Recently purchased. My first drive was short (in the rain and with an under inflated front tyre) and to a mechanic . On the journey, I don't remember issues with the gearbox or clutch but I asked the mechanic to fit an Oberon clutch slave cylinder for lighter gear change and he did. No issues. . I find that the gearbox 'bangs' into first (ie its not seamless as it used to be on previous bikes) but also up into second or third and fourth and even sometimes similar on the way down the gear change.

He swapped out the clutch plates for another set on test - no difference
He replaced some slightly warped plates - no difference
He replaced aftermarket slave cylinder with original - made it worse!
He also did come realignment but again - no difference.
I cleaned out clutch basket and plates throughout - no effect.
System was bled - no effect. There is full fluid, no clutch slipping and no leaks.

The mechanic (who specialises in Ducati) thinks it might be gear selector forks wear. Previous owner going up and down the box without clutch. Its going to cost me €1,000 to get the gearbox out plus gear selector part costs if that's the issue, but right now we are not sure if it is!

Anyone had this problem? Any advice appreciated...or €1,000 if you have it lying around....!

Many thanks

Garret
