It wasn't wasted, the "problem" was sorted in the sixties,

Ducatis don't need mods to beat up their rockers, they can manage that by themselves.

I am concerned about this though, especially after finding a tiny sliver of something that weren't magnetic on my gauze filter when I changed the oil on my 888. I know that T8's aren't supposed to suffer but then it's supposed to affect 996's more than 748's. By my reckoning it could apply to any four valver (especially if earlier rockers were replaced by some from the chocolate wrapper chroming period).

I dunno why somebody hasn't sorted a mod by now, according to Sigma it's caused by the lethargic way that oil gets up to the cams on start up (as much as 30 seconds apparently). Surely it wouldn't be hard to devise a little secondary oil circuit with an electric pump that just feeds a couple of small diameter oil lines that run up to each cylinder head? The 'leccy pump could mebbe relay off the same circuit as the fuel pump so that it squirted a dollop of oil on the cams as the fuel pump primed?

Antony,

Our oven goes ping too...but that just means the pizza is ready......... ;->

Jools,

A couple of companies have come with a solution to this, one is megacycle in the US of A?

They refinish the rockers but it ain't cheap to get done.

The bad news is that the engineer couldn't fix it.

The good news is that he wouldn't charge, even for the call out!

He was there all of fifteen mins as he checked over the oven and tried swapping some parts over, but no joy. He said that we'd need to find out from Whirlpool direct what the error code meant as he didn't want to order parts on a guess-whats-broken basis. Once we'd found this out he would come back and sort it!

You could look at this another way, Ant. You could think "how very nice of the IR to pay for my new rockers/oven"

I could do, until you realise that it was my money in the first place that the IR took when they shouldn't have

Yes but they 'saved' it for you and gave it back just in time to meet Mitch's bill - how lucky was that?

Trust me on this one, after years of explaining to people about investments going down as well as up, I've learned to look on the bright side of just about every possible financial scenario.

Take my recent bike purchase? Can I afford it? No. Did I want it? Yes.
Do I need to earn some money now to pay for it? Yes.

Do you have a Will? No? I'll come and do one for you and you can pay for it out of your recent IR refund. I'll even give you a DSC discount. Howsaat? xx
