Battery fire!

Took bike on first ever trackday. Going into 2nd corner of warm-up lap and bike dies. Suddenly saw smoke from engine area, pulled open l/h fairing to see battery on fire! Blew flames out (marshalls took their time) and took bike straight to dealers. On stripping down bike, it appears starter motor cable from + battery terminal had shorted out on bolt head of thermostat housing. (No fusible link for this). Photos have been sent to Ducati but as of yet have received no reply. Obviously a concern to 749/999 owners. Bike is a 2004 749s mono bought new in March 2005 and only has 2600 km on. BTW, how do I stand with warranty as happened on track? (Did 70 mile blast day before and all ok!)

Crazy, off to check mine now. Has your dealer mentioned it was on track? If not no problems

Have a quiet word with him and ask that he does not mention the trackday. Lets be honest, it makes no difference to him.

Any way, where does it say in the manual about the bike not being suited / covered when on a track. It was not being used for racing. No doubt some one with more knowledge of this will be along soon to correct me.

I think you'll be OK.
