Rear shock

During todays fettling session i noticed that the rear preload was wound down to within 3/4,s of an inch of the bottom of the thread and there seem,s to be a fair bit of oil around the rod . So rebuild or new shock ? and any suggestions for a replacement shock absorber ?

I have a WP in mine and it was not the massive improvement I was hoping for.

You could get the shox rebuilt by someone like Maxton or a great suspension contact I have who lives just outside of York - but if I had the knowledge I have now, I'd just hold out and save the dosh up for an Ohlins - esp as it appears the SS/SL range 'appear' to respond well to raising the rear ride height.

Sadly even with GOOD discount you must be looking at £400+ for a new Ohlins however.

Haggon do a shock for both the 900SS and the 900SSie different part numbers. The ie one is 235mm making it 7mm longer than the earlier SS shock giving a nice increase in read ride height. Either shock is around £255 new.
Its not going to be as good as a Ohlins, but its got to be better than a worn out standard one. As Frank says the alternative is to get the standard one over-hauled and even uprated by someone like Maxton. My mate has a standard one on his 900SS that has WP internals which I think was done through Baines.

Discovered my SS rear shock was leaking 3 days before a Brands track day. Didn't have time to get it rebuilt and didn't have the cash for a fancy one so phoned Hagon.

Bloke on the phone was very helpful although apparently they only make one shock for both the SS and the SSie. I explained that they're actually different lengths so he trundled off to get the measurement for their one. Turns out to be slightly longer then the SSie one (by 5 mm) which means it's perfect for the early SS.

Kev I'm pretty sure the SSie is actually 12mm longer than the SS. The SSie one I bought previously certainly was.

Shock turned up next day and was great on the track. Didn't need to get it built to spec, which the guy said they could do if needed so I'd definitely recommend it.

Darren.

If you need a shock rebuilt, I can recommend Racing Lines in Derby.

They did all the suspension on my 600SS and it's spot on.

A shock service & rebuild is £75 all in. They also sell Hagon replacements.
