749 Chain?

This may seem like a stupid question but do you need to remove a link in order to remove the chain?

Going to replace this week and it would appear so....or am i being an idiot?

Yes , nothing to do with the swing arm being double sided though , you have to remove a link to remove the chain on a 916/96/98 etc too , it's because the front sprocket is in front of the swing arm pivot and the rar sprocket is behind it .

I suppose you could remove the chain without splitting it if you remove the swing arm and pivot but a chain splitter is a lot quicker

Your need to look for the soft link in the chain to split it

.....and i suggest using an angle grinder just to flat the raised parts of the link before using your splitter to press the link out.
