Has anyone fitted one of those mechanical gear indicators to there dash. Does it work and is it easy to fit.

Yes...and Kind of!

It depends on the year of your bike. My early 1995 916 is one of the few models that prove a little tricky to wire up. Its missing a piece of the circuitry required to activate the neutral side of the indicator. Without this you can't program it.

I got around it by installing an extra 3 pin relay, which sits behind the nosecone, that now gives me the required input. This was done with the aid of the technicians at Digitool who where very helpful.

I think if your bike is 1996 or later, you should be OK, and if so then they are very easy to fit.
