1000 vs 620 fuel consumption

My 1000ds multi used to do around 180 miles before the fuel light came on, this would flicker on and off for about 10 miles and I knew I could ride for another 40 miles. 220 miles per tank and I never run out of fuel.
The 620 does around 130 when the light comes on and it stays on, no flicker. I run out of petrol on Monday 35 miles after the light came on 185 miles per tank. I thought the 620 was supposed to have a greater range on the slightly smaller tank due to better consumption. What sort of figures does anyone else have for these bikes?

Mike, Tango (2005 M620) is doing approx 110 before light comes on, then only 22 max till empty.
Tank IS plastic tho, so different pump placing too

C
Ps: check out too on the UKMOC board, as is a bi-monthly discussion....................

edited to add: My M1000sie, same engine as your last MS, only manages 120 tops to the tank, & about 15miles from when the light comes on. On occasions, the mileage has been just under 100 miles till the tank is empty!!

The earliest the fuel light on my S has come on is at 67 miles! I refuel at 130 miles and usually get 17-18 litres in so I guess the maximum range would be 150.

How?

Do you ride everywhere under 4000rpm?

Mine puts the light on at 85 miles, then gets filled at 130mph.

It runs dry at 150miles. (I strapped a fuel can onto the back, as it's the only way to be sure).

Same about 90 miles and light comes on and fill up about 130, but I usually stop to fill mine up

My 620 monster used to get about 40-50 miles out of a tank I reckon.

Something like that anyway

Mike that sounds about right for the 620. I rarely ride mine under 5500 rpm and get 130 to the light. At that point there should be about 4l left in the tank but I haven't bothered to find out. Mainly because I'm usually tied to Rob's Monster consumption (his light comes on around 100m).

My 1000 would go anything between 90 and 110 miles before the fuel light comes on, on average.

However if i filled up as soon as it came on i would only get 12 or 13 litres in leaving lots in reserve.

It is annoying and sometimes worrying riding around with the fuel light on for ages, do you trust it? will you run out?

It certainly put me off a bit when doing John O Groats to LAnds End as running out in the middle of nowhere would have really messed the run up.
