just had a look at my forks and you are correct tony, just matched up the PFM disc and the standard one, the PFM has a deeper dish. like you said tony fork bottoms machined out, new bottoms or new disc/carriers. Bl**dy hell. How much are Fork bottoms?

Don't think the bottoms are normally available seperately but Ducati Coventry (John Hackett) has done a lot of radial conversions so he may have some that have been replaced.
Its worth a try

or just get your ones machined and have some spacers made up at the same time.
then you can run what you want

nothing bodged about having them properly machined.
not saying get out there with your dremal.
and any way as is already mentioned the 748 and 998 R have it done.
only thing is it wont then be original.
don't know how much to get it done, best look in the yellow pages and ask for a few quotes, depends which is cheaper new carriers or CNC milling ?

Had a similar problem with a rather Gucci set of discs I managed to get my hands on that I wanted fitting to my Senna. Long story short the bike went to Pete @ http://www.panda-engineering.co.uk/ and he machined @ 3 mm off each side of the Marchesini, 2.8mm off back of carrier, re machined the carrier holes to correct ‘pattern’ and then @ 2mm off the callipers…..hey presto some awesome brakes on std. callipers……….mmmmm std. callipers maybe some new ones needed, what you think Nelly?
