996 forks springs

The 996 forks are on my S4 they have improved the handling massivly over the standard forks but .......the bike is a road bike used on very bumpy roads so a plush fork is needed .

what is the standard nm weighting of standard 996 fork springs ? 8.5nm 9.0 nm or 9.5nm as the springs in mine are way too hard i have them set on ZERO preload and forks still to hard oil is 7.5w and 140mm airgap

compression set at 4clicks and rebound 13 clicks bike handle fine but crashes over bumps seems to me and others who have tried the bike that springs are way to strong ????

bike has Ktech revalve kit and possibly Ohlins springs supposedly 9.0nm but i have my doubts about what spings are really in the bike I do have a set of standard 996 springs .

simple change to progressive springs maybe? Soak some of thise bumps up but keep the higher end internals

the invoice from Ktech says the springs are 9.0nm but i dont believe it as the preload is now set at zero , I did actually ask for 8nm springs but they said they would be too soft , now i am not happy with this situation as the front end is painful ,I did try some hyperpro 8.5nm progressive springs but they made the bike dangerously unstable at high speed so linear springs seem best , just need softer ones .

i will get the spings tested to see what rate they are ,

when a customer spends £500 on a revalve and spring setup you would think they would build it to the spec I require????

0.9kg/m is a bit stiff for a monster, just about bearable on a 996 for me (i prefer 0.85kg/mm), but the 996 not only carrys its headlight, clocks and fairing out front, but also positions more of your body weight over the front, so a fair bit of weight bias over the front.
Standard 996 springs would have been dual rate, which if using 996 forks in a Monster I would be looking at 0.8kg/mm (8.0nM/mm) linear single rate springs

4 clicks on the compression, assuming that's clicks out, is way to much. Back it out to 10 or 12

isnt the idea that you have very little preload, ie the spring correctly matches the weight of bike and rider?

no it is backed out so it on minimum compression 4 clicks in of 15 steps
dont worry i have tested this but I know exactly what you are saying

yes SKidlids i also reckon an 8 spring would solve my problem , I called Ktech today and asked why if i asked for 8 did thye fit a 9 (actually 9.25nm when tested ) they said they dont stock them , but they list them ??????bloody cheeck i spent £500 with them .

so where do i get an 8nm spring for 996 fork from??????????

Not sure,
but I would be seeing if I could use one of the 04745 Series of Ohlins springs for their R&T forks
They have a 0.5mm smaller OD at 37.5 and are 47mm shorter at 240mm so would need a spacer making

But the choice of springs is quite wide

4745-75, 7.5 N/mm (marking -75).
4745-80, 8.0 N/mm (marking -80).
4745-85, 8.5 N/mm (marking -85).
4745-90, 9.0 N/mm (marking -90).
4745-95, 9.5 N/mm (marking -95).
4745-10, 10.0 N/mm (marking -10).
4745-05, 10.5 N/mm (marking -05).
4745-11, 11.0 N/mm (marking -11).

Ohlins spring for the 996 is a 8627-90
OD/Length/Rate
38/287/9.0

The 04745 range are
OD/Length/Rate
37.5/240/x.x
