Having just become the owner of a Superlight V, I was wondering if there were any other Superlight owners on the board, plus does anyone know if these bikes were fitted with the "Agip" sticker on the fairing from the factory or was it optional as I have seen some with and some without Cheers Ian
Welcome - and nice one, very envious of the Superlights, great bikes.
I'm sure there are SL owners in here but the member list does not appear to be searchable never mind, there are so many knowledgeable bods in here that someone will reply soon.
Failing that, have a look on the ducati.com website you might strike lucky.
Hmm, I guess Frank I could be called a SL rider even though my bike is tagged an SS. But not being a true SL I can't vouch for an AGIP sticker. Sounds more like an addition than stock original.
The Agip stickers you see on some Duke fairings have been fitted by the owners. Some had a small triangular Agip sticker on the tank and another on the crankcases to tell you to use that brand of oil. This was all due to Agip sponsoring Ducati's WSB effort. These days you get a Shell sticker on the engine cases. If you want some Agip stickers,Motrax used to do a whole sheet of them for about a fiver.Other places to get them are MPS mail order,or any graphics firm like Morgan Designs.
Some Dukes came from the factory with AGIP stickers...I have some photos of 1991 888 SP's at the Milan show with AGIP stickers on and Mick Walker's buyers guide shows Agip stickers on some new bikes and not others. Seems (in common with other Ducati variations) that some bikes had it and some didn't.
Agip (Or any other major sponsor) stickers were often fitted at shows and displays. As I said before, something to do with the sponsor deal.It was a popular thing in the nineties to fit Agip stickers to the fairings to ape the WSB bikes. The bikes would have come out of the dealers stickerless.I have most of the origional sales brochures, and none of the bikes featured have any sponsor stickers.
i too have a superlight v, and mine has an agip sticker, but was put on by the last owner. here's a little picture of how it looks, if you're interested.
