I've got a Ducati Corse slipper clutch fitted to a 1998 748 I've just bought. I had a 2001 748 before.
Thing is there is a 'grinding' coming from the clutch when I pull away from the lights. i.e. let the clutch out slowly from a stand still. When it's going it's fine. No problems on downshift.
It's been recently serviced, has race plates, and springs x 4.
Always found mine to be grabby and noisy when I'm gentle with it. If you set off hard then its OK. Like Ray says, par for the course (on a Duke anyway)
Grabby! That's the word! The 748E I had was great but it had a standard clutch. So this is the delight of a slipper clutch? I'd hate to try and get off the line in a race with it
Had the same problem with my 749r slipper. Get it stripped, cleaned, ramps greased and pack height set. Will then feel like a "standard" ducati dry clutch.
Cost me an hours labour to get mine done and the bike was transformed.
I agree with Carbon, I had the same problem as you, grated as you pulled away, worse when two's up. Took it to Neil at Cornerspeed, he stripped it, changed a couple of the steel plates & she has never made a noise since, top man.
If its one of the ones with balls and ramps, its a good idea to keep a very close eye on plate wear. I had one of the Ducati Corse ones, and let the plates wear down a bit to much before having it serviced....started off a bit graunchy, ended up very graunchy because the balls escaped out of the top of the ramps and wreaked carnage in the basket. I've now got a very nice Ducati Corse paperweight
I wouldn't worry to much mine does it even when it has been striped and cleaned unlike others I find it better if you feed it in gently horses for courses I suppose
if you really want to be sure do it yourself strip it down and clean all the plates with brake cleaner re grease the ramps and see how it feels they are not that hard to work on
