from my reading the 50mm headers with 50/54 midpipe and 54mm end cans is the best way to go as the full 54m system adds top end (9.5K rpm+) power at the expense of more usuable bottom end and mid range

also you will prob need to open up the air inlets in the nose fairing as this is a bottleneck. filter choice can make a big diference too.

forget a Power Commander (unless you have a very cheap one sitting round already), get your ecu repmapped by

BSD or CJS Racing

it will cost the same money and be better than a PCIII and dyno time anyway as more factors can be adjusted and at higher resolution than the PCIII

Thanks for the response, the 50mm headers with 50/54 midpipe and 54mm end cans is the way I would like to go. I already have the chip fitted which came with the 996r to support the 50mm Termignoni end-cans (and complete 50mm system), would this need to be changed?

I would though check you have the correct chip in in case you have the road exhaust one in ?

Does anyone know the number for the race chip?

Is there a quick way to check when fitted to the bike?

New ecu number ?, Google is your friend.

Had a quick search on Google and found the following, anyone dispute this?

If it's any help, here are the numbers off the "stock" 996R ECU for the 50mm road exhaust, and the "race/open pipe" 996R ECU for the 50mm Termis.

The "stock" 996R road ECU has the following numbers on one side:
IAW59M 996R DUCATI007

On the other side:
S10DB104

The 996R "race/open pipe" (Termi) ECU has the following numbers on one side:
IAW 59M.A4
IAW 59M.A4/HW010/0115_115
12V= 129 01
OL +CVI95B

On the other side:
61600.655.00
996R
DUCATI007SA

Data I have on misc 998 ECUs (from my own notes) is:

96506801B = stock ECU for 996R/998S

96507502B = ECU for 996R/998S open / race 50mm Termis

96507402B = ECU for open / race 45mm Termis. Note the change of digit from 5 to 4: basically the variable around whether it’s for 45mm [stock] or 50mm [S] cans.

96507602B = Note that variable ‘6’ = ECU for 998R open / race cans

96507702B = hmm, dunno, ECU for 45mm to 50mm system?

I've just had a look at the ECU in the box with my standard endcans, I have not looked at the bike, so I assume this is the stock, non-race ECU, and the markings are as follows -

61600.630.00
996R
DUCATI 007
IAW 59M.A2
IAW 59M.A2/HW010/0115_099
12v 142 01
