998 + 54mm system, ECU question

I will soon be fitting a 998 engine into a 748RS chassis and hope to be able to adapt the RS's 54mm Exhaust, with the engine I got the standard injection system and ECU, I'm hoping to fit a Techlusion TFI unit I have on to the bike rather than have to buy another ECU.
Does anybody have any idea how the uprated ECUs compare to the standard ones
Anybody have any useful comments or views

The only real problem you have with using the Techlusion, or a PCIII for that matter, is that you can only add fuel, and under certain conditions/parameters.
Replacing the ECU gives you the option to adjust the ignition to, as well as adding/removing fuelling at pinpoint postions in the map.
That's not to say they don't/can't work well, but you'll need some dyno time and a good operator to get the best out of them.

Cheers Nelly, i'll give the TFI unit a try, I had it on the TL when I was racing it, Dyno results didn't relate to the real world seat of the pants feel and stop watch results. Dyno said bike was not making any more power, but lap times were down and the TL had better drive from lower revs, could be down to the Dynos inability to duplicate the ram air effect.

The Ram air effect is only effective at very high speed. So if you say from loew revs, I don't think it was due to that. Even at high speed the Ram air effect is small.

Don't know if it's of any interest/use but I now have software to alter the fuelling on the new 5.9 ECU.
It's only a software version of the trimmer in the old ECU and the setting only applies to the idle, but the ECU uses this as a base datum from which to work from.
I've heard that the stock ECU can handle the pipes if the fuelling is set up right?? Don't know but it's there as a further option?

Again thanks Nelly, didn't know you could do that so something else to consider.
Felix, when I say the TL had better drive from low revs, I really noticed it as I exited the corner at the end of the start finish straight at Keevil that leads on to the main straight in 3rd gear, previously the bike bogged a bellow 6000rpm, but with the TFI it then pulled from 5500rpm, mods to the TL included derestricted airbox, BMC filter and full Scorpion race Exhaust.

5.9 ECU

FIM now supply a chip-able version of the 5.9 ecu. Worth a look and while it's bound to be more expensive than the Techclusion, it's go to be a much better way to go in the long run.

I'd heard rumours the FIM ECU was going to come in at around £600.

Bit out of my budget then at £600
So my current options are
1, to try the TFI unit I already have
2, Alter the software of the 5.9 ECU

Just need the time to get on with the job, fitting it in with 4 other winter projects, 2nd inline behind a R6 engine rebuild at the moment.

kev,

If you want to try another ECU, I have my standard 998r ECU that go with the standard quiet pipes.

The numbers on the side of the ECU are 998RDUCATI015 and 019DI006.

Didn't make it to Popham, got a puncture and couldn't get the bl00dy wheel off.
Trying again tomorrow
