Using the red key for the first time

I've just bought a new ECU, red key and speedo for my 749 and intend fitting it this weekend. Does anybody know the procedure for using the red key for the first time?

Try not using it. See if it starts. If at all possible never use the red key.

Try searching on board for red key.
I'm sure someone has already posted the sequence and it's summat like - DON'T USE THE RED KEY.
Think you only need to have the red key within a few feet of the bike and don't actually put it in the ignition.
If in doubt - which you obviously are - DON'T
