It lives!!!!! my new race bike

In September I sold my 600ss which I ran as a mini twin with Wirral and PDMCC last season and was looking at either a 748 or 749 to race next season. When out of the blue came the opportunity to buy a race prepped 800ss. So I did just that and this morning Ducati John rang and said in his wonderful Yorkshire accents "It started first time and sounds bloody awesome, it always did have a bark to it"

I am chuffed to bits as the bike had been stood since 2008. It was Nigel Wright's (TWPD) bike and as you know Nigel won the 2007 NGRRC mini twin championship and was leading in 2008 until his crash at Pembry.

Hopefully next season I can do Nigel proud and get a least one result for him.

Heres the spec:
After last seasons exersions I decided that 46bhp isn't enough to race mini twins so sold the 600ss for more or less what I paid for it in Feb this year and replaced it with it's big brother. I could have gone for a race sorted SV but my heart lays elsewhere so an 800 ss it had to be.

So I drove up to Darlington and picked up the 2007 NGRRC mini twin winning bike. Which had been highsided at Pembry during the 2008 season while also leading the NGRRC mini twin series. The 800 is just on the limit for the Mini Twin class. The spec is/was as follows:
Arc exhaust, hand built in America by Doug Cook of ArcFabrications. Titanium 2 into 1 under seat exhaust.
Brembo cast-iron fully-floating discs on the dry wheel
Ohlins rear shock absorber
Showa fully adjustable 800ss forks with Ohlins springs, Overhaul and re-valve Front forks at Reactive Suspension at York.
Motowheels.com 1/4 turn quick-release fuel cap
Barnett race clutch pack in standard 800 clutch
Power Commander III USB with custom map for Arc exhaust
K&N performance air filter
Marchesini lightweight 800ss wheels
Brembo Goldline brakes
HEL braided brake hoses with titanium fittings
HEL braided oil cooler hoses
Woodcraft CFM rearsets
Carbon fibre timing belt covers
Carbon fibre front mudguard
Custom-wiring loom
Ricambi Weiss bodywork
Renthal lightweight sprockets
Yoyodyne lightweight exhaust flanges
About 59ft-lbs and 70 bhp (near series limit)

It had been stood ever since with some work done on it on Aug 2009. When I collected it there was no fairing or seat unit, the right clip on was very bent, front brake master/lever was missing, nose fairing bracket was out of shape, right peg was gone, clutch wouldn’t work and it had no battery. So with a big list of things to do I got it on the trailer and took it home.

This is what it did look like:

So far I have replaced the right clip on, re mounted the throttle and kill switch. Fitted 1098 front fairings, 1098 screen and 1098 seat unit. 999 race bracket. I've fitted a 748 front brake master/lever which was damaged inthe crash, SRF in both brakes and clutch. Rebuilt the clutch. New right SES peg fitted, spare levers to be sourced, new 520 none O ring chain fitted, sprockets, tyres swapped, yellow yes did I say yellow wheels to be painted, exhaust has been cleaned etc.

Here it is now:

and here

I just need to paint it now, any one got any colour scheme ideas?

Regards

I must see about gaining access to my old hard drive at somepoint as I should have a few pics of the bike on there as well as some of the North Glos results.
I still have the sister engine I bought of TWPD in the garage as I was going to upgrade my 750SSie Minitwin, but got tied up more with DD and my Class A bike

The 800 is a great engine and as Nige showed it can humble a lot of bigger bikes, good luck with racing it this year what ever series you race it in
