Riding to work this morning something strange happened. As I was slowing down for a junction there was a popping sound (bit like a stone thrown up by the wheel bouncing off the faring or mudguard) from the front end of the bike (front cylinder or front wheel not sure) and the engine "hickuped" stuttered slightly. After that it was fine
Then this evening as I was heading home it did it again a couple of times, mostly when pulling away in first.
I'm supposed to be heading off with some mates tomorrow for the Welsh rally and am now scared that I will need my AA card.
Any advice, suggestions, useless banter, as to what to look for/check, would be much appreciated.
check the timing belts for tension and pulley nuts and the pulley wheels on the camshafts- im sure my SS had a similar sympton when i discovered the woodruff key and keyway in the pulley wheel had worn, i put it down to carb icing at the time-- good luck
On both my M600 and my 750ss I find that the carbs create a "pop" sound when pulling away from low revs and have the engine hiccup. Not sure why but it doesn't seem to do any harm.
Well she has survived a 550 mile trip around Wales in the pouring rain. She still pops ocassionally and stutters from time to time but no worse than before. I could not find any lose nuts/chain/tensioner bits as suggested. She needs a service soon so I'll get her booked in early so they can take a look and hopefully they can sort the problem before something goes bang in an expensive style.
