I was in Ducati Manchester this afternoon and they had in a "fresh out of the crate" '04 999R sat in the showroom. Gorgeous looking bike at a great price of £15,995. The guys and gals who paid £19,995 under 12 months ago must be gutted

While I was there a guy came in and was looking at it. He enquired about an '05 999S first, which at £13,995 is the pick of the '05 range I reckon. You get full Ohlins and radial Brembos, plus an assymetric Termi too. Obviously this guy weighted up the full carbon fairing and covers, plus the magnesium bits, and bought the '04 999R instead. Good choice I reckon!

What's the power diff between the 04 999R and the 05 999S?

About 4 or 5 bhp I was told. But Ducati are now quoting figures at the crank rather than the back wheel like they have done previously. I reckon there's going to be virtually no difference between them if you dyno'd two bikes back-to-back.

Correct me if i'm wrong,but !!! wern't the "quoted "hp figures always @ the crank ??

You may be right, but i think Ducati were a bit more 'realistic' in the past. I think they're following the Japanese example a bit more now i.e. push the truth as much as you can!

999S 2005...105.2 kw - 143 hp @ 9750 rpm
999R....102 kW (139 hp) at 10000 rpm, the new R engine produces 110 kW (150 hp)

They are all quoting the dry weights now as well
