888 crash bungs

I'm off to R&G next week with my racebike to get some crashbungs made up.
They will probably be a mix of monster and SS bits so that they replace the top engine mounting bolt but are long enough to poke out of my race panels.

They will probably add them to their range anyway, but it would be useful to know in advance if there is much interest. Anyone else interested?

Paul

Yep,me.problem i have is that i am running the standard Battery, which covers the engine mount. Is there a solution to this,as i don't want to change the battery for a smaller one-It's got some serious compression to overcome!!

if you're handy with a soldering iron, the trick is to use the smaller late 748/9x6 battery and re-locate the retaining clamp.
Unfortunately the +ve and -ve terminals end up ar8e about face so all the wiring has to be extended.......

As I don't have to worry about trivia like lights I have got a spare loom and hacked it about.

It will just be a pain in the neck when/if it ever goes back to being a roadbike as I will have to change out the whole loom

Plan B said get a race battery of a suitable amp rating with the terminals the right way round, but that only occurred afer I started cutting.......

Ooh yeh, I've been looking for a decent set for mine, not the ususal bendveryquickly ones which just fit to the fairing mounts. Am I right in thinking these bolt thru frame/engine?

Let me know how much etc. and I will have a set.

Chaps,
there will be a slight delay as my new race panels haven't arrived yet, so going to R&G for the whole measuring/fitting/hole cutting exercise would be a bit pointless.
It's looking like a real pain though, due to the location of the engine bolt in relation to both battery and fairing bracket.
The other option of using 9x6 style ones which clamp around the frame tubes at a 90 degree joint is looking out as there always seems to be a rad hose, airbox tube or coils in the way.......

Maybe its easier to just keep replacing panels when I crash........?

Sorry chaps, still no further as being made redundant, getting married in two weeks and trying to build a cheap desmodue bike is taking all of my time and money.

Attaching the fairing sides is my biggest problem, as using Monster style bungs puts them very close to the std fixing points.
I did think of clamping a bracket to the bung behind the fairing, but then if it goes down and the bung bends or rotates then the fairing gets knackered anyhow.......
Having said that I still think that it will be the best way forward.

I tried a set of 916 style clamps but it put the hole right on the angle of the vent which looked a pain to drill.

If anyone else gets there before me, let me know!

Cheers, Paul

You're in a similar quandry as the 916 etc. bikes. Speaking from experience (4 lowsides) I wouldn't bother with bungs. Does more harm then good.

Instead get a reinforced CF clutch cover from CarboTech (you can drive a lorry over it) and apply some Kevlar reinforcements on the inside of your fairing panels at strategic locations. The fairing will rub through the fibreglass but not the Kevlar. Then, fill the hole with body filler and a bit of paint and voila!

I know there have been plenty of threads on this subject, not all good information.

Felix,
I like your style (and I'm catching you on the lowside count!).....I'll have a look at Carbotech.
The biggest problem that us 888 crashers have is that we wipe out a silencer every time. Maybe that's why Terblanche(?) stuck them under the seat of the 916...............

Using a decent rearset and bung was intended to try and save silencer as well as clutch/battery/rad.
If I add that much Kevlar I may as well be using my 600.......
Cheers, Paul
