Trouble at mill
Following a full service on the 996R I was looking forward to getting some miles under the new Corsas and went off on a jaunt with Webby to Worthing on one of the hottest days of the summer a couple of weeks ago. All went well until we got to the town and in the stop-start run through to the seafront the engine soon got up to 115C with both fans going furiously – the enclosed fairing always run the engines hot in traffic. Coming back out of the town the engine started to lose power – almost as if it was cutting out on one cylinder and it was a struggle to keep her going at traffic lights. Out onto the open road and although the temperature dropped the problem persisted – you would get up 7000rpm and then the engine would slowly lose power until the revs dropped back down to 4-5000 – open the throttle made it worse, then all of a sudden full power would cut in and wheeeeeh ….

After a while the problem disappeared and didn’t come back until the engine got hot again some days later. Over the last week the problem has been there almost constantly so I spoke to Snells who managed to free up Carl for a couple of hours to look at it. Prior to going I armed myself with a new ECU just in case courtesy of the kind and generous Andy Banes (andyb) who sent me three to try – thanks Andy

Well, the problem is now solved. Any idea what it was? A prize for nearest the right answer .....
