anyone any thoughts on the 851 on biketrader advertised for £4000?
seller is claiming that it is an 888 cc Sp. Given that it is a 1990 bike this would make it an SP2. From what I can see from the pictures it has the graphics of an SP3 (but is obviously not an SP3 judging by the pipes) and does not seem to have the silver bottomed Ohlins forks. Front fender also looks rather more strada shaped that Sp shaped.
seems it could be a 1989 851 sp (which unlike the 888 cc racers was still an 851cc) in which case the marzocchi suspension fits and the price is probably about right.
As Alan has said, this is the same bike which was discussed in a previous thread on here. The present owner bought the bike not so long ago, and first posted a message on the DOC website asking for information as to its identity - since he didn't know what it was himself. The chassis number he gave identified the bike as an 851cc Strada. (ZDM851S***** is an 851 Strada). The 888cc bikes were all ZDM888S*****
That bike is not a SP it is a Strada with a 888cc engine. 888cc engines only appeared on 90 SP2 models with USD forks as part of the 1990 WSK homologated rules. I believe Standard 851 Strada models didn't get the 888 engines until 91/92
