998 not turning over
The 998 is not turning over. The solenoid is clicking, fuel pump priming, new battery fitted, side stand switch working. Could it be a stared relay gone duff and are they interchangeable with 996 just so I can swap over to try.

If the Solinoid is clicking,

either
1, Solinoid is Duff
2, Starter motor is Duff (the brushes do wear)
3, volts are low
4, Starter Cable damaged

Was a duff starter motor. Not the easiest thing to change are they.

Nope worse on the 998 than forerunners
Sometimes the oil seal gives up and lets oil into the starter motor that then contaminates the brushes and commutator.
I've repaired one before by cleaning up the commutator and fitting another brush kit
