Baines Racing use Rock Oil, and Sigma used to recommend it:

So I assume it's ok!

Hello Magna,

I used 10W40 in my 916 engined MonsterS4, and it drank oil......

The bike had around 10k miles on the clock. Swapped to 15W50 (Motul 300V is good) and oil consumption had abated. 10W40 is too thin when pushing hard.

I have a 2000 996Bip with 50mm termis and always use 15W50 fully synthetic (I use Motul 300V or Mobil 1 fully synthetic).

Hope this helps.

Best regards,

Jame

Just ordered some Rock Oil 15W50, good price from Demon Tweeks.

I'll see how it goes.

OK since the Rock Oil went in, I have done one decent ride.
Checked the oil losses and its used 220ml on a ride of only 100 miles so I need some more data before saying there is no difference yet.

Try to keep the conditions when checking the same to. Lifting the bike onto a paddock stand, tipping the engine forward, will move the oil level.....
If you're down to measuring 220ml.... then you need to make sure the bike is in the same spot, on/off paddock stand (i'd measure on one as the bike will be vertical), i'd check stone cold as the oil will take a while to run back to the sump fully...etc.
Does sound a little excessive and the thicker oil will defo help. It might be cured but just check under the same conditions

what?! 220ml in a hundred miles?! I rarely top up between services, even on my old 748 and 916sps, or any Ducati between (monsters, numpty, 848) used to have to when I had a fireblade and ST2 needed a small amount just before service time....but that much in 100 miles?! amazed

Maybe its a user?
I remember my 05 Passat - had it from new and used 1L/1000 miles.
BMW R1100S - another big twin, that used oil.
