996 engine in bits - what whould you do/check?

My engine is going to be reduced to a little pile of components shortly. It's not something I plan on doing too often so I though I would ask what peeps would take the opportunity to check, mod, change.

At the moment the plan is for it to get a balance, Ti rods, hi comp pistons, squish set, new cams.

Anything else?

TIA, Rob

Check all the internal parts over with a tooth comb. Gearbox parts. gears, slectors etc.
Check all the bearings and replace the mains as a matter of course.

Oh and sell a kidney to put it all back together again

what sort of gains are you looking at with a set of high comp pistons on a 996 bip engine?

Is it the case of only getting real gains with set of hotter cams?

It'll be a combination of all the bits working together. I expect the comp' would help a little in anycase.

I'd do all the oil seals as a matter of course. The mechanical seal behind the water pump is worth doing to, but that's not a killa to change should it fail anyhow.
There are a few security "tab" washers that'll need replacing as well as some circlips.
Nothing much to change on the generator except use a new nut.
Worth checking the condition of the bearings in the sprag clutch though.

Your doing the same as me mate,

Just got to split the cases now and check the crank and gearbox etc.

I was then thinking of getting the crank balanced and working from there. Was thinking about High comp pistons etc but my pistons are in super condition along with the bore etc. So only really wanted to add some new piston rings.
I intend to set it all back up as good as I can get it, such as the cam timing and the squish etc.

Was also thinking of getting some of those STM adjustable cam/belt wheels. Have to see if its worth it though!

Yep. I have the STM pulleys in the hallway, ready to go off tomorrow. I've been collecting bits when they came up, now it's time to use them

Where did you get the STM pulleys from? Only I see a link on Nellys site leading to their site.

I will be in touch with that Nelly soon I hope. I think I can feel a shoping list for Ducati bits coming on!!
