Pooter/Internet help PLEASE !!

Hope someone can help..

I havent been able to get on the DSC site for about a week now (having to resort to other peoples pooters which is a pain). It is a works PC, but I have no problems with other sites and as im a complete simpleton with pcs, wondered if theres anyone who could help..?

After about 10 seconds, the message I get is;

Gateway Timeout

The following error occured:

[code=DNS_TIMEOUT] A DNS lookup error ocurred because the request timed out during the lookup.

Please contact the administrator.

I'll try and acces replies tonight..

Many Thanks
Nat

Morning Natt,

I can only imagine you have links in place from the old site.

Try the initial link below and set up your faves / bookmarks from there:

Lightbulb DNS Info

Since i rarely know anything useful i thopught i would post a reply here !

DNS stands for Domain Name Server, and its what translates things like www.ducatisportingclub to their nnn.nnn.nnn format.

The nnn.nnn.nnn format is the IP ( internet protocol) address and is what actually defines the location of every page on the internet. WWW.name.type is URL ( uniform resource locator ) ie a wordy version of the IP address.

SO...... if you are getting DNS errors its because your internet connection is not pointing to a valid DNS server address. The DNS server is a translation service that takes a WWW.name.type and returns an NNN.nnn.nnn IP address.

You can see your DNS address, as well as your IP address by:

Start - Run - CMD.exe ( this will give you a black Dos style window)
IPCONFIG/ALL will give you a list of your IP configuration

Hope some of that was useful :-)

STeve

Yep - the DSC website is blocked on your works PC by the sounds of it.

Not sure its worth trying to find a work around.

Your company must be using their own DNS server, on which there is no entry for the DSC website. You can go around that by using the server's IP address as suggested by Franck.

Now you're screwed up, it seems you're only allowed to submit www forms (like the one i'm filling in now to write that reply) to authorised websites. Obviously the DSC message board is not one of those...
