Gbyte666 Castle Combe Race Report

Gbyte666 Castle Combe Report

What a great event this was, biggest crowd I have ever seen / sunny weather / only one faller ( unhurt ) /local circuit / great company and on and on.
Leaving home early Friday afternoon Nick B and I arrived at the circuit ¾ hr later to find Senna/Skids/Nog and Ghost just setting up and Chaz and Ottei over in the private members section away from the pikeys.
There was a car track day going on there and they seemed to crash way more than a bike day, one of the road going mini’s redesigned his front end at quarry and another Muppet dumped his oil ALL the way around the whole track. The marshals didn’t have enough time to dust it all and sent them all out again telling them to go slow. Yea right, more of them spun off the track.
On the track walk that evening Nick and I could see the massive oil trail the length of the circuit, luckily most of it was off the bike lines just the chicanes looked dodgy.
We decided to watch a film on the laptop after eating and Nick had brought along Lesbian Vampire Killers, hmmmm I didn’t fancy that and suggested one that I had downloaded from Sky Movies. Now anyone that has seen The Crew will know what I’m talking about. I couldn’t work out who was in what gang and who was batting for what side with women doing women and blokes doing blokes and the coffee table scene was just plan weird. Should have stuck with Nicks Lesbian Vampires as we both slept in the van with one eye open all night.
All comers Qualifying
First out on the circuit was a new one for me and with the big oil trail on my mind I bumbled around to familiarise myself with the circuit. The circuit was fine with the oil not being a problem at all but I felt slow and indeed I was right by looking at my lap timer seeing a 1:37. PANTS
DD Qualifying

Feeling a bit better being out with just the DD gang and thankfully entering the all comers for more practice in the morning I managed to knock off 5 secs with a 1:31. Straight off the track from the qualifying and back round to the entrance for the All Comers race.
All Comers Race
As I was a reserve I had to start from the back of the grid along with about five other reserves. Most of them all seemed to want to be at the back and the marshals didn’t seem to bother so I went as forward as I could. Another good reason to do this All Comers was to get some start practice, and those lights this meet had a huge delay and there was loads of lurching going on.
When I watched DD the last two races at Castle I always go to Quarry as its inevitable the DD’rs go down there. Usually Paul Payne drops by there for a chat. So no real surprise when I arrive there to see a mass confusion of objects on the track and bikes diving everywhere as Guy’s ( #21 ) bike slid across the track along with loads of grass and muck, the worst was poor guy was sat right in the middle of the track with his hand up not knowing if it was best to sit there, curl up or get up and dance. Ghost was really lucky as Guy’s bike was spinning round it caught him but he managed to stay on. The only other thing I really remember about that race was getting raped by the supermotos, a 125 doing and endo in front of me going into the last chicane, Phil riding like a trooper off into the distance and that purple hornet with his elbows and crazy riding.
When we got back in we saw how close Phil’s dice with Guy’s bike was. Both very lucky and I think Guy did something good that week for so many riders to miss him.

Phil’s tyre mark all over Guy’s screen.

The only damage to Phil’s bike was a folded in fork plastic

DD Race 1

I’m sure all the DD pack felt as good as I did lining up to go out on the grid with that fantastic Castle crowd all watching us and taking photos. The Spectators fence side was packed.
On the grid knowing the lights were going to be long there was still loads of lurching going on but no false starts. Lights out, bang I’m off and getting a great start as usual then halfway down the straight I saw Skids and Injected smash right into each other. What I couldn’t see was Sam West had snapped a chain and was dragging it still on the bike. Kev and Guy had hit each other trying to avoid him and as soon as they parted all I had in front of me was Sam. Gulp, but I managed to avoid him and get back into the race. Quarry this time was incident free and Phil my usual sparing partner was getting away like a bike thief on LSD. Every corner I came to I could hear that jet aircraft noise on full burn of Nog’s bike out breaking me by a mile as I parked it. ( I’m so **** at late braking )
Nog took me at every chicane and I took him back straight out of it being on a Class A, I knew I must have been cheesing him off but hey ho great racing with someone.
Finished 19th as usual ( I’m going to change my number next year to #19 ) but really enjoyed the race, finished another one with points. The best part was the slowing down lap with the packed crowd all the way round the track clapping us. I’m sure they were just clapping for Andy/Tim/Tom/Harriet /Andy/Dallas but I made them wave by waving crazily at them like I was Jorge Lorenzo Fisher and saying to myself “yea baby you paid to watch me”

Race 2

Banging start off the line again I was surprised that nearly everyone went to the right of the circuit so I ragged Monie straight up the left hand side passing loads then cutting in and even holding it around quarry. I was gobsmacked as I managed to hold it for about a lap and a half before I started to get picked off. Passing me first was Senna which helped me by trying to chase him down. Shorty after Tonio came past me gunning for Senna. Great watching them both battling it out the whole race and on the last lap Senna hit the tyre stack at the last chicane knocking them out into the track and sending Tonio out onto the grass. Again great slowing down lap to see the crowds were still there enjoying the close racing and well done to Skids for overtaking me on the points table. Lol like it wasn’t going to happen, I’ll have you at one round Kev. I’m getting better.

Some sequence shots showing what a great start I had…

Wrap up and thanks

Special thanks as always to Manda and my Boys supporting me, Nick B for the offer of Lesbian Vampires and Pit help/advice again, the faithful Hants / Berks DD supporters ( you know who you are )
Well done to Harriet for a blinding win, Andy for his win and a special mention for Phil who has found his mojo on #61 with some good DD helpful advice.
Though not the best track Castle has been by far the BEST VENUE I have been to being very friendly, well organised and a massive crowd attendance ( that didn’t have Valentino Sheppard shirts on..lol )

Awesome write up Lorenzo Fisher...very funny.

Now all you need to do, is actually spell my nickname correctly somewhere on this site...just once will do. LOL!

Well done fella.

Craig tried really hard at this meet, so not sure why the lap times didn't get better. But many points for enthusiasm must be awarded!

What I'm really concerned about though... there's a choice of lesbian vampires or debbie does dallas (original version), and craig choses gay porn instead!
Damn right I slept with one eye open!!!

I just love reading these reports, I can't compete with you literary types. Any ways I have been given big ups at this event so you can read between the lines and guess at my pleasure.

I'm so pleased it was only Guy's bike that I tagged and not him. See you all at Cadwell as I have a confict of dates with Pembrey.

Just in case I used up all my +ve karma in that close shave, we stopped on the way home to help a stranded biker in a layby. Couldn't get his bike started, so to his amazement we put it in the trailer and took him back to his house in Swindon... Kismet restored (I hope)

What a star you are Guy, but I don't think you would know how to do anyone a bad turn anyway.

Nice one Guy helping out one of our Local Bikers. Thats what we are all about. Let me know if you find any pics, there must have been loads being at Quarry. I'd love to see them.
