Can anyone help? When cleaning my 916 last month I noticed some staining on the rear wheel which resembled chain lube however it would not wash off, I have since tried white spirit, WD40, T-cut etc but it won't shift. Anyway I cleaned it again yesterday and there is more of it which has got me thinking that it is brake fluid though I can't see a leak and too be honest I am not a big back brake user. Does anyone have any idea what it could be? The bike is a 1995 Biposta with which I have owned as a second bike for years and has covered less than 10,000 miles. ANy help would be appreciated
is it like a browny stain? my wheel did this and was most fustrating, ive since had my wheels powder coated so its no longer a problem. sorry i couldn't be of more use adam
I bought a set of well used 3 spoke OE Brembos for my track wets - the rear has a few places with reddy-brown stains. No cleaning solution or solvent that I can find will remove it without buggering up the paint.
I'd love to find out what it is, as I will then paint all of my van with it and have an indestructible finish forever.
I don't think its the shock as it doesn't seem to have affected the swingarm side, the wheel bearing feels fine and if it was engine oil it would clean off. The only thing I can think of is brake fluid but all seems dry!
Not much good to you I know, but I have exactly the same on rear wheel, a small amount of staining (looks like old chain lube) but will not come off. A good T-cut (with professional cutting paste) made some improvement, but ultimately is still there.
