Temperature gauge wonky!!

Hi all i have a problem.

No not that problem! My temperature gauge is playing up, it has started flicking left to right but this fault is intermitent.

I have replaced the gauge and it seemed okay for a day then started playing up again.

Has anyone had this fault and what was the cause?

All the best

Hi Mark,

When you say "Wonky" & "it has started flicking left to right" , do you mean the needle itself or that the round guage casing is rotating???

If it's the casing you may be able to get to it by removing the nosecase and if the looseness is not obvious, then use clear silicone sealer on the back etc to hold it in place.

If it's the needle itself that's playing up I have no idea and would rather leave it to the real techies.

Temp gauges tend to go off the Clock when they earth out in my experience. Could be a faulty sender unit or the wires protective covering has worn through by rubbing on something metal, so its shorting.

Thanks for the advise lads,

It is actualy the needle that is moving left to right but this is intermitent.

Ihave changed the gauge and checked the wiring but i still get the same problem!

It is as if the voltage stabliser is faulty but this is contained within the gauge so it has to be ether another faulty gauge or the sender.

The thing is if a sender goes down it just normaly reads incorrect but my gauge needle moves erraticaly, very strange?
