Alternator wiring

Hi Guys,

I've been checking out the alternator wiring on the 888 and a little TLC is needed. One connector is blackened and the main cable insulation has a split where it passes through the main cover (previously well botched so it was a b****r to get out). I see Vehicle Wiring Products (http://www.vehicle-wiring-products.co.uk/) has some suitable high current 2-wire connectors I could use but neither they or Maplins list any suitable 2-core cable. Has anyone found a suitable source? I could use adhesive heat shrink to repair the split but I'd be happier if I could replace the whole cable.

Thanks,

Keith

Couldn't you use single core wire and use a heat shrink sleeve over two of them to make your own "2-core"?

I gave that some thought but the screwed sealing grommet on the 888 looks like it will need a fairly circular cross section to seal OK. As there is oil being thrown around I suspect an oval cross section might leak?

I rewired my alternator back to the windings. I used single core wire, shrinkwrapped and then use silicon around the plug.
There is no pressure to the oil, just splashing.
Problem with using a 2 core, of suitable gauge, is it won't go through the grommet too easy.
You're welcome to come over and see how it looks.
For the connectors, I used good old bullets and sealed them to keep the dirt out.
