Replacement Phone

Need to do a bit of checking up! I am due a free replacement phone on my O2 contract, but my current Nokia is fine and I dont need one.

However my Son sat on his Sony one, whilst the worse for drink and is having to run round with an old Samsung one. He is on an Orange contract.

His suggestion is that I should get an IPhone and give it to him, for him to use.

Now I dont need the functionality, he likes gadgets and needs to go 9 months before he is due an upgrade.

Question is, if I get an O2 IPhone will his Orange SIM card work in it and will it talk to the Orange network?

Yours in anticipation.

Chris

Chris, the iPhone will need to be unlocked. This can be done but it will prevent your son to upgrade the operating system ever.

Also, I don't think you will get an iPhone for free. I think you will need to add a kind of "iPhone option" on your normal price plan to get one (around £5 or 6£ a month I think).

Finally, your son will not be able to enjoy unlimited 3G data, except if that's already part of his price plan with Orange I guess.

Had you considered simply keeping your phone and renegotiating your contract?
Last time I was up for renewal I called and asked to terminate my contract (I usually do this then buy a new contract from dial - a - phone with maximum cashback, means a network swap but you can port the number) anyway the customer retention team offered to more than halve my monthly bill if I kept using the old phone and stayed on with them.

Have a heart Zimbo! You're shunning the gadget lovers amongst us. How can we compare EDGE to HSDPA, Touch Flo to ... you get the idea.
