Race pattern Gears change advice please

I need to change my Bostrom 998s to a race pattern gear change as I get confused whilst riding and racing.
Last night I changed the thing that connects to the gearbox to the gear lever so it is now pointing upwards and is away from the engine casing, instead of near the engine casing aand below the connector.

It seems to work but the lever doesn't always spring back quickly when used.

Am I causing a problem or is this a safe change to make? do I need to check anything or make more ajustments?

Thanks in anticipation

DP do a race pattern lever-as does JHP. It's a simple lever that goes straight on the gearshaft and replaces the pivot and rod and original lever. This will give you a much more positive gearchange. Setting it up as you have will work but the gearchange linkage is working through pretty extreme angles so will be stiffer and may bind.

I have just done exactly this on a Bostrom as Monty has described.

Lever is about £100 though
