So DSC members, who's racing next year?

I sense the racing bug is about to bite a few members. How many will be wearing the stylish orange jacket next season? What are you riding and with which club?

I'll be on either: Monty's TZ250 (if he'll still let me and he's not racing it himself), my CB500 or if I can find one cheap enough, a CBR600rr with New Era Superclub.

What are your plans?

If it's your first season, how are you feeling?

I've been on the phone today to the ACu and to DP.

I was the first to commit to Desmo Due so if that takes off I'll most likely run in that but I'm planning on a few rounds on the 996 with Weeksy and co.

How do I feel - VERY nervous!

I know I'm going to get spanked but somehow it doesn't seem to stop me - the curiosity is overwhelming.

TP - soon to be in a fetching shade of orange.

I'll be so bold and give you advise. Not that you need it, so it's more like my 2 cents. Go for the 600 class. It's were the natural progression leads you if you have the ambition to find out how good you are.

I'll still be racing in Derby-Phoenix's 750/twins class. It's not a highly competitive class, more like a gentlemen's class, which suits me because I don't have the ambition that WJB has. I know you do, John, don't deny it.

Felix, just out of Curiosity, how many races did you compete in this year and what would you say the total cost amounted to.

The reason I ask

1/ Is it has a good a value £ 4 £ has a normal trackday. 6 x 20 min sessions
average cost say £130.00

2/ Do you get tyres at a discounted rate at race meetings

3/ Are there hidden costs, not including fixing it after a fall.

Uuhh, too many questions, Jon. I'll try a few, though.

I raced 6 days which amounted to 14 races. Cost for the entery fees was about £120 per day on average. Petrol, food, etc, you'll be able to estimate. Bike maintenance is expensive on mine, so we won't mention that part. Crashing cost me two footpegs, a lever, a clutch cover, and a fairing respray. Let's call that £200. Tyres I got at Costco for less than they paid for them. They made a mistake and I got three sets. Maybe I should've put a Costco sticker on the bike for compensation.. I used two sets of tyres, about £160 a set.

Now, if you are comparing racing and trackdays on your basis, you'll not go racing. The truth is that racing makes absolutely no sense, and you can't justify it rationally.

BUT, if you haven't raced you haven't lived. (Blimey, must stay off the bottle for a while...)
